Dark Matter: Finding a Way Home Across the Multiverse

I picked this book after a very long pause from reading, and this was my first-ever sci-fi read.

Quick heads-up before you go further — if you haven't read Dark Matter yet, go read it first cause this blog has spoilers. Still wanna read the post? Great. Let's get into it.

What It's About

Jason Dessen, a very ordinary physics teacher at a university in Chicago. One night on the way home after returning from a friend's party, he gets abducted by a masked man. That is when reality flips for him.

Jason wakes up in a lab where he is celebrated as a genius who invented a device to travel through the multiverse. In this version, he never married his wife and his son was never born.

From there, Jason fights his way through dangerous and bizarre alternate realities along with a colleague named Amanda, desperate to get back to his true family and the life that actually belonged to him.

What I Actually Took Away From It

I grabbed this book thinking it would be a sci-fi time travel drama book. But I would say this book is about a man trying his very best to come back to his love and home.

The real story is about identity, about the paths not taken, and about how much we take our ordinary, simple lives for granted until we're staring at every other version of it we could have had.

This was a nice read. It didn't end as strongly as it began, but I still liked it.

Finally

Would I recommend it? Absolutely, especially if you want a sci-fi read that's more about the story than the science.

Anyway, thanks for reading. Much appreciated!!!!!
